Common Causes and Symptoms

Early Osteo Arthritis
In early osteoarthritis, the cartilage becomes soft, thins out, and develops tiny cracks and surface fissures. Major contributing factors include joint malalignment or abnormal biomechanics, obesity, weak muscles, and previous joint injuries or surgeries. If left unaddressed, the condition can progress to significant cartilage loss, bone spur formation, and narrowing of the joint space.
Signs and Symptoms
- Joint pain, especially during activity
- Stiffness, especially in the morning
- Limited range of motion
- Joint swelling

Meniscus & Cartilage Injuries
Meniscus and cartilage injuries often result from trauma, such as sudden twisting or pivoting movements, or from degenerative changes over time.
Signs and Symptoms
- Joint pain, especially during activity
- Popping or clicking sensation in the joint
- Swelling and stiffness
- Difficulty fully extending the joint

Avascular necrosis (AVN)
AVN of the hip occurs when the blood supply to the femoral head is disrupted, leading to bone tissue death.
It is commonly associated with trauma, prolonged corticosteroid use, and excessive alcohol consumption. Medical conditions that impair blood circulation, as well as treatments like radiation therapy and certain chemotherapy drugs, can also damage the blood vessels supplying the hip and contribute to AVN development.
Signs and Symptoms
Progressive hip pain
Limited range of motion
Pain worsening with activity
Groin pain when bearing weight

Bone Stress injuries & Stress Fractures
Bone Stress Injuries (BSIs) and Stress Fractures occur when repetitive mechanical loading exceeds the bone’s capacity to remodel and repair. They commonly arise from sudden increases in training intensity, duration, or frequency, combined with inadequate rest and recovery.
Contributing factors include poor biomechanics, low bone mineral density, hormonal imbalances, and nutritional deficiencies such as low calcium or vitamin D. These conditions are often seen in athletes, dancers, and military recruits engaged in high-impact activities.
Signs and Symptoms
Localized pain that worsens with activity
Tenderness over the affected bone
Swelling or mild edema
Pain persisting even at rest
